This is general information, not legal advice. Fees and timelines can change, so check with the agency named here before you request a report or pay.

Who keeps crash reports

The Arkansas State Police is the official repository for motor vehicle crash investigation records. It keeps the central repository for all crash reports in Arkansas.1,2

If a local or county agency wrote your report, the State Police also hold a duplicate. The original is available from the agency that wrote it.1

How to request a copy

Online: Use the Arkansas State Police Crash Report Online Purchase System. The State Police Crash Records page links to it with a button labelled Purchase Crash Reports. Reports you buy online are delivered electronically when available.1,2

Online search options: The individual search takes a name, date of birth, driver license number, crash report number or crash date. You can also search by VIN to find reports linked to a vehicle.3,4

Online bulk search: To find multiple reports, use the bulk option. It covers a date range of at most 31 days.2,5

Online order check: After you buy online, enter the order ID from your receipt on the Check Order Status page.6

By mail: Send your request to Arkansas State Police, Attn: Crash Records Section, One State Police Plaza Drive, Little Rock, Arkansas 72209. If you were involved in the crash, use the form titled Request for Arkansas State Police Crash Report by Individuals Involved in the Crash. If you were not involved, use the form titled Request for Arkansas State Police Crash Report by Individuals NOT Involved in the Crash.1,7,8

Mail payment: Pay by check or money order made payable to the Arkansas State Police. On the mail-in form you can ask for the report to be returned by e-mail or fax. The forms warn that reports cannot be e-mailed to Hotmail addresses.7

In person: State Police crash reports are typically available at the troop headquarters for the area where the crash happened. The Crash Records page has a state map to help you find the troop headquarters that covers your county. We could not confirm walk-in hours, payment methods or counter procedures, so check with the troop office before you go.1

What you'll need

To find a report, clerks need at least the crash date, the highway number, the county and the name of at least one driver.1

For the online individual search, you need at least one search field. A crash report number alone is enough. A date of birth must be paired with another field.3

If you do not know the report number, the involved-party mail-in form asks for the crash date, crash time, highway or street location and county.7

If you were involved in the crash, include a copy of your driver's license or identification card with the request.7

If you are a parent or legal guardian asking for the report of a juvenile involved in a crash, provide a copy of the juvenile's birth certificate and a copy of your own driver's license or ID card at the time of the request.7

If you were not involved and do not know the report number, the not-involved form also asks for the name and date of birth of someone known to be involved. That form also asks for the agency or company you represent and its tax ID number, if applicable.8

What it costs

The State Police fee is $10 per report if you were involved in the crash. It is $25 per report if you were not involved. Act 672 of 2025 set these fees, effective July 1, 2025.1,10

The mail-in forms state the same amounts. The involved-party form says $10 per report, and the not-involved form says $25 per report.7,8

The online purchase system states a fee of $25.00 for each report requested. The official pages do not say whether people involved in the crash can pay $10 online or must use the mail-in form. Check before you pay.1,2

A copy of a supplemental report costs $1.50 per page.10

How long it takes

After a trooper's supervisor checks a report, it goes to the crash records repository in Little Rock. In most cases you can order it within 10 days of the report being completed.1

The online system says most reports are accessible within ten business days after the crash date.2

Who can get a copy

Arkansas State Police crash records are available to the public. You can get them directly from the State Police, whether or not you were involved. The fee depends on whether you were involved.1

If the crash involved juvenile occupants, the online purchase system asks you to contact the Crash Records Section directly instead of buying online.2

Fatal crash summaries from the State Police are only preliminary. They are not official crash investigation reports.9

If city police or a sheriff handled the crash

Reports written by city, local or county law enforcement are held by the State Police as duplicates. A State Police crash records search includes these reports.1

The original is available from the agency that wrote the report. We could not confirm fees or procedures for asking a city police department or county sheriff directly. Contact the agency to ask.1

Do you need to file your own report?

Separate from getting a crash report, you may have to file your own accident report. A Safety Responsibility SR-1 accident report must be submitted within 30 days when property damage to any one person is more than $1,000.00, or when anyone is injured or killed. This applies regardless of fault.11

The form is the Arkansas Motor Vehicle Accident Report (SR-1). It includes a Verification of Liability Insurance (SR-21) section. The form gives this mailing address: P.O. Box 1272, Rm. 1120, Little Rock, AR 72203.12
