Crash Overview
Pingel said he was watching a Detroit Lions game at home when he stood up and walked toward his kitchen. Only seconds later, he said, a car came through the front of his unit, destroying much of his living room and scattering debris. He had been sitting on the couch closest to the front wall moments before. Pingel said he initially thought a transformer had exploded, and that the glow he saw was from the car's running lights. His 4-year-old cat, Pixel, went missing after the crash and had not been found as of Monday.
His next-door neighbor, Benjamin Bebko, was standing on his balcony when he heard tires screeching. He said the car came through his fence before he could see it. Bebko recorded video showing a large police response and most of the vehicle inside Pingel's unit. The crash also damaged Bebko's property.
Police reported that the driver had non-life-threatening injuries. When WXYZ 7 News Detroit went to the police department on Monday, officers said no further details were available for release.
